In the mid-twentieth century, Long Island was hit by two major hurricanes – the Hurricane of 1938 (also known as the “Long Island Express”) and the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944. The 1938 struck Long Island on September 21. The 1944 hurricane struck Long Island on September 14. This collection captures the furry and destructive aftermath of the hurricanes of 1938 and 1944, as well as 1955's "Hurricane Connie".
